Provide merchandising support in the handbag division, focusing specifically on fashion handbags. This role will be responsible for pricing, being intimately familiar with the competitive landscape, writing seasonal lineplans and analyzing the business to ensure continued growth. This person will need to have a team attitude as they will be responsible for working with buying, production, design and inventory planning to help build the fashion handbag collection each season. In addition to attention to detail and business acumen this person will need a passion for product and an eye for trend that is brand right.
#1 Seasonal Business Strategy and Hindsight
Ability to analyze a complex business to accurately articulate best and worst sellers.
Transform business hindsight into strategy for seasonal line plan building.
Ability to both react to current business as well as anticipate future trends in the business.
Provide timely and accurate business updates to the cross functional team.
Accurately hindsight successes by channel and ensure growing markets such as international are receiving the product they need to drive their business.
#2 Trend and Competitive Analysis
First and foremost a clear understanding of the Tory Burch values, product aesthetic and brand point of view are imperative to the role and understanding the brand positioning in the market.
Gain a firm understanding of the fashion handbag competitive landscape through online research and visiting the market often.
Apply this knowledge to Tory Burch to help improve functionality, ensure pricing remains appropriate and interject current trends where appropriate.
Stay on top of runway shows, presentations, emerging brands and blogging to hold trend dialogue with the design team, help the brand stay relevant and hopefully predict the next ‘big thing’.
Have a firm understanding of the needs of each international market and work hand in hand with those teams to develop special product.
#3 Pricing and Optimization
Partner closely with production and PD to better understand the costing break down of fashion handbags and margin implications.
Create a clear pricing structure that ties perceived value, quality and retail pricing together.
Understand where Tory Burch falls within the competitive pricing landscape and identify areas of pricing
As the brand grows, build a clear path for revenue growth in addition to retail growth.
Follow the brand evolution to become more elevated and ensure fashion handbags align with this go forward strategy.
#4 Cross Functional Partner
Act as the hub between the channels of PD, production, design, inventory planning and buying. This will require attention to detail, effective time management and excelled communication skills.
Understand the goals of all other divisions and functions to ensure you as a merchant are helping to support these brand goals.
Build a relationship with all other merchandising teams to create synergy across the Tory Burch collection each season.
Develop a close relationship with the international team as overseas growth continues to be a focus for Tory Burch.
Work closely with assistants to update and publish accurate and timely linesheets
Attend detail meetings- working with design and assistant merchants to ensure details are on brand, functional and competitive in the marketplace.
Attend seasonal design kick off meetings, design sketch review, proto reviews and other product centric meetings.
Prior to each market give pricing and unit projections to production to better inform development trips, costing negotiations and vendor placement.
Compile cuts each season and pass to production to place all orders.
Work hand in hand with the buying channels to fill any specific needs they may have for their market.
Own fashion handbags and act as the day to day contact for all channels and cross functional partners. Become the expert.
